Patching the net that covers the Koi pond, it was severely damaged in the February ice storm. Way past due, all the leaves going into the pond are a pita.
Are you a Meme slut?
If you are then this site is for you: http://TheDailyMeme.com/
What’s a meme? It’s something, an idea, a topic, a piece of content (story, video, advertising jingle, etc) that is voluntarily spread from person to person and typically evolves. The evolution can be short lived or profound. Could extrapolate into a pop culture icon or a societal tipping point.
It is pronounced - meam like dream.
The media is all over memes like white on rice. It give them fodder for their daily shows and being on top of the next big meme is a producers favorite dream. hehe I just rhymed that up.
It isn’t just the media that loves them, I bet over the last month I’ve heard at least 6 different people say they wish they could come up with the next multimillion viewer viral video.
I’m not a meme slut but I do find the concept and application fascinating. I think the amount of sociological data that can be acquired from these things is significant. One of my favorite memes is Zeitgeist. And one of my favorite, complimentary to memes, websites is Tippingpoint Labs who just this summer launched a podcast you can get on iTunes.
I may not be a meme slut but I was one of those people who, over the last month, wished I could post a viral video. Maybe that’s because I’m unemployed and I’m hoping it could somehow blossom into a job I love (see TrackStories.org) or maybe it’s just because they’re kinda cool…
So what’s one of the newest, funnest memes? You tell me.. but here’s one for you America -
This is Why You’re Fat.
(And is the content on this site disgusting or does it give you recipe ideas? hahahaha)
Gardening Therapy
~ There are only so many hours per day that you can search for work. After 3 or 4 hours of searching and applying for jobs, I start to get really depressed. But I may have found a good way to balance that. Today, instead of starting my day sitting at the computer to look for work, I’m gardening instead. There are countless flower beds on this property which haven’t been properly tended in a couple of years now. I’ve been haphazardly working on them but I think I am going to make working on them part of my daily routine for as long as the weather allows. My Mom would probably be very surprised at this behavior, I never really liked yard work. Maybe I need to give credit to my dear friend Cindy. This time last year she drove down to visit me and we worked on my yard and something shifted in my attitude. Even before that I started thinking about gardening as more a Zen thing than a chore and over the past couple of years I’ve observed Cindy get such personal satisfaction from her gardens. It helps to keep your mind in the moment (which is always good for depression, stress, and worrying), the exercise is good, everyone needs a little bit of sunshine / vitamin D per day, the cats and dog keep me company, and when I’m finally ready to call it quits I have lovely, visible results from my hard work. After a shower and some lunch I was ready to go back to the job search tasks. So thanks Cindy - wish you were here ;-)
